Photography

In class today I gave a presentation on travel photography. While giving the presentation, I was pleased to have reminded myself of these tips and tricks.

We finalized our trip to the Grand Canyon today and going over the photography material really reminded me why I am going on the trip in the first place. I want to share stories of people's lives with the world through photographs. With this trip, I planned each day based on what I wanted to take pictures of.

We added horseback riding around the Rockies so I can capture early mornings at a stable in Colorado and a late night to take pictures at Arches National Park to get the stars in the photos.

I hope to meet many people while on the trip and have them be future connections in my life., not only for professional reasons but to have people that are willing to share their story with me in different places in the United States.

People in pictures are what makes pictures interesting because people are interesting. The more people you can connect with, the better. I hope to meet many people while on our trip.

Martha Weber visit

All I can say is wow. What a great person to have come speak to our class with firsthand knowledge on of Hungarian culture.

When she was talking to the class about Hungarian food and saying names of people she knows, it was hard for me to disregard her comment that Hungarian culture is hardly like German culture.

With my grandparents coming from German and with me having firsthand knowledge on their culture, I thought they would be similar in at least a few ways. The names of people she knows have the same sound, a few of the foods my grandma has made, minus the paprika, of course, but regardless seems alike in a few ways.

Although there is a large difference in how they lived, it almost sounds as though her family in Hungary went through a lot more than what my grandparents went through in Germany, which I found incredibly surprising.

Even the stitching she brought in to show us and the glass and the dolls even resembled a lot of items my grandparents have in shelves in their home. I digress on the subject.

Overall I learned a lot about her life, how she was brought up differently than others born in the U.S., and her views of her heritage and where she lives now.

I hope to write a great story over her life and do a photo essay with one of the contacts she has to offer.

Trip to the Grand Canyon

Last night we finalized the plans for our roadtrip to the Grand Canyon. Instead of stopping in New Mexico, we are just going to stay two days at the Grand Canyon. Sadly I am not 21 yet so I can't reserve the hotels, and my boyfriend's credit card expires next month so it won't let us use it to make the reservation. Hopefully in the next two days we figure it out what to do so the prices don't go up.

The reason I bring up this is because while everyone is in Budapest we will drive 57 plus hours. Luckily in the hotels, they offer free Wi-Fi so I will be able to keep up on the website for the class.

In other news I am completely excited for the lady from South Bend to come visit so I can ask her all the questions for my story on her. I hope the final product will be good enough that I will be able to send it in to the South Bend Tribune.

It is going to be neat to talk to someone whose parents come from Hungary and who has been raised in the culture. I want to hear their views on what the United States has to offer unlike her hometown.
